Mission on the Mountain

We received the following email from Amy Wilt at the Mt. Pleasant Church telling us about the annual mission "trip" that brings together all ages as the hands and feet of Christ. What ways can your women's ministry do missions in your community? Feel free to share in the comments and we may feature it in a future post. - Tammie Gitt, CGWM Blog Coordinator

In July 2015, 40 volunteers from Mt Pleasant Church of God in Dillsburg, PA took a week-long missions trip to Red Bird Mission in Beverly, Kentucky. During that week, a desire to come home and help our local community was birthed in the hearts of many of the participants and the vision for Mission on the Mountain was cast.

Mission on the Mountain (MOTM) first took place in the summer of 2016. The week long missions experience takes place in the Dillsburg/Mechanicsburg area with the goal of meeting the needs of those in our local area who have a need for basic or minor home repairs but lack the resources or physical ability to take care of them for themselves. All labor and materials are provided to the homeowners free of charge.

Workers of all ages stay on site for the week at Mt. Pleasant Church of God in Dillsburg, enjoying meals together as well as evening activities, which provides a "summer camp" feel for the volunteers.

Having youth work alongside skilled tradesmen also serves the purpose of exposing them to these trades and teaching them some practical skills with the benefit of real hands on experience.

This year, Mission on the Mountain 2018 took place Sunday, July 15- Saturday, July 21. The 50+ volunteers were excited for the opportunity to show God's love in a practical way - to quite literally be the hands and feet of Jesus.
